A systematic literature review of empirical research on technology education in early childhood education

Abstract Technology education in early childhood (ECE) has only recently been established internationally as a curriculum content area. The interdisciplinary character of technology and its status field under development occasion need to distinguish define the merging disciplines. This literature review presents an overview ECE recent empirical studies. was carried out systematically, resulting 23 studies that were scrutinised present overall picture regarding study design, findings how is characterised. analysis nature reviewed builds on DiGironimo’s (Int J Sci Education, 33(10):1337–1352. https://doi.org/10.1080/09500693.2010.495400 , 2011) conceptual framework, representing five distinct but dimensions ever-changing human technological creation process. In synthesised findings, four subthemes derived from studies’ themes identified: two focusing preschool teachers pre-service teachers, activities with children. aligned outcomes are discussed concerning technology, along possibilities, challenges implications for current research ECE.
